How to Use the Random Number Generator

Enter whole-number lower and upper bounds, with the minimum no greater than the maximum. Choose Generate Number for one draw and choose it again for another. Both endpoints are eligible, and each draw is independent.

Formula and Explanation

Choose uniformly from integers between the inclusive bounds.

The browser supplies a random 32-bit unsigned integer. Rejection sampling discards values that would bias the result when mapping them to your range. The accepted value is reduced to a position in the inclusive range and added to the minimum.

Both bounds must be JavaScript safe integers: from −9,007,199,254,740,991 to 9,007,199,254,740,991. The interval can contain at most 4,294,967,296 values. This is a single-number tool, not a unique-number list or a verifiable drawing record.

Worked Example

With bounds 1 and 6, the possible outputs are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Choosing 7 for both bounds always returns 7. For bounds −3 and 2, there are six eligible integers, including zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes. Both bounds are included. The count of possible values is maximum minus minimum plus one.

Why can the same number appear twice?

Each draw is independent and previous results are not removed. Repeated numbers are expected; this generator does not create a list without duplicates.

Can I use negative numbers or decimals?

Negative integers are supported, including ranges that cross zero. Decimal bounds are rejected because the output is an integer.

How large can the range be?

The bounds must be safe integers, and the range can contain no more than 4,294,967,296 integers. If both bounds are equal, the only possible output is that bound.
