Air Fryer Conversion Calculator

Translate oven settings into an approximate air fryer starting point, with separate fan-oven behavior and adjustable reductions.

Blank overrides use conventional defaults of 25°F and 20%, or fan defaults of zero additional adjustment. Food categories add guidance, not multipliers. Use a tested recipe for long or low-temperature methods.

How to Use the Air Fryer Conversion Calculator

Enter an oven temperature and time, choose conventional or convection/fan, and select a food category for guidance. Blank adjustment fields use defaults: conventional 25°F and 20%; fan zero additional reduction. Override either field independently. Unit switching converts entered temperature and temperature reduction. Results update immediately; Reset restores 400°F for 30 minutes.

Formula and Explanation

Fahrenheit = Celsius × 9/5 + 32
Raw suggested °F = oven °F − reduction °F
Suggested °F = raw °F rounded to nearest 5°F
Corresponding °C = (suggested °F − 32) × 5/9
Raw suggested minutes = oven minutes × (1 − reduction % / 100)
Displayed minutes = nearest whole minute, minimum 1

The conventional 25°F (13.8889°C) and 20% rule is a starting approximation, not a food-specific tested recipe. Fan ovens already circulate hot air: this tool conservatively adds no further reduction by default and recommends checking early. That zero adjustment is a documented tool policy, not a promise of equivalent cooking. Food choices change guidance only; no category multipliers are invented. Fahrenheit is rounded to the nearest five degrees, with Celsius showing the corresponding conversion rather than a second independent rounding.

Use your appliance instructions and check food early. Thickness, load, airflow, preheating and appliance design affect actual time. Supported original inputs are 250–500°F and 1–120 minutes; adjusted settings must remain 250–450°F. Inputs below 300°F with more than 60 minutes are excluded to avoid presenting slow or low cooking as an equivalent recipe. These are software boundaries, not food-safety thresholds. Food must reach its safe internal temperature measured with a thermometer; converted minutes never prove safety. Poultry: 165°F (74°C); fin fish: 145°F (63°C); ground beef/pork/lamb/veal: 160°F (71°C); whole beef/pork/lamb/veal cuts: 145°F (63°C) plus a three-minute rest. Do not air fry raw stuffed breaded chicken products. Follow package cooking methods, especially for frozen foods.

Worked Example

400°F for 30 minutes in a conventional oven becomes 375°F (about 190.6°C) for 24 minutes. At 350°F for 20 minutes, the result is 325°F (about 162.8°C) for 16 minutes. A custom 15°F and 10% reduction from 400°F and 30 minutes gives 385°F and 27 minutes. An oven setting is not the internal food temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I reduce a fan-oven recipe by the full amount again?

Not automatically. This tool uses zero additional reduction for fan ovens as a conservative comparison. Check early, follow your appliance guidance and use custom adjustments only when appropriate for the recipe.

Does choosing chicken or fish change the formula?

No. It provides food-specific guidance, not an invented temperature or time multiplier. Verify internal temperature with a thermometer.

Why is a long low-temperature recipe rejected?

Slow cooking and other low-temperature methods do not become equivalent air-fryer recipes through one percentage. The input limits deliberately exclude long, low combinations.

Why can the displayed time differ from exactly 20% less?

The unrounded time retains the selected percentage, but the practical timer display rounds to whole minutes with a minimum of one. The breakdown shows both; rounding is not a safety guarantee.
