Next release?

Postby bgranvea » Fri Oct 21, 2011 8:43 am

Hello,

I'm looking at BoneCP as a replacement for DBCP after discovering that a lot of time was spent in my application in doing SELECT 1 statements because of testOnBorrow=true :)

We use a lot Spring jdbcTemplate.query(), update()... with small queries in a highly concurrent environment so I guess that BoneCP could greatly improve our performances.

I'm a little worried by the different reports I saw on this forum saying that BoneCP cannot properly recover from DB connection problem in some cases. Is there a real problem or is it due to application misbehavior (connection not closed)?

I cannot promote BoneCP as a replacement for DBCP only because it's fast if it not also very reliable and robust.

I also see that some important bugs (see for example https://bugs.launchpad.net/bonecp/+bug/790759) have been fixed a few months ago but not released. So, when will these changes be released?

Thanks.

Apologies for the late reply.

Work on bonecp has resumed after a pause [new kid @ house ate up all my time :-) ]

BoneCP has reasonably good support for recovering from a DB outage especially with the transaction replay feature but this is set to improve much further with the next release -- stay tuned!

Hi wwadge,
We have deployed an application with BoneCP 0.7.1 RELEASE. Facing some db outage issue "Database access problem. Killing off all remaining connections in the connection pool" in a normal scenario(with out shutting down the DB manually) after some regular interval(though it recovered after some acquireRetryAttempt). We are hoping to get a next production grade release with 0.8.0 Version.
Customer is sitting on our head to solve this issue, if not they asked us to go for another jdbc connection pool provider. We have restricted ourselves not to experiment any new connection pool provider(DBCP or Tomcat JDBC Connection Pool or DBPool) at this point in time(Since there is no active development happening there and comparatively slow as per the benchmarks published). It will be a kind of rework. So we are waiting for the next release very badly. Please let us know once it is ready and share the link to download.

Hi!

I'm curious as well if BoneCP is still being actively maintained? I haven't seen an update or notice on the site in a very long time about the development status of this project.

Thanks.

What are the improvements in this new version? Is there any intention for "Hibernate 4" support? By the way, congratulations on your work with this connection pool (and to your new kid!)
